I hope this is a major improvement over the old RAZR phones. I bought a V3c earlier this year and have regretted it ever since. The bluetooth has never worked well with my car. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't so I bought a headset and gave up on using it in my BMW. Also, the scroll functions tend to slow down after a while (no apparent reason) and the only way to clear it is to take out the battery and put it back in again. Oh, and I can't go a day without charging it...I even have an extended battery and it sux! Let's hope the new version has corrected these issues.

Those RAZR phones suck. My stepdaughter has one. It has a really nice display, etc., but she dropped it in the water one time -dead. My cheapo free-with-the-plan Nokia went all the way through the wash cycle, has been dropped so hard and often that the face is cracked, and has suffered general abuse. It's two years old. Works fine.

Still waiting for T-Mobile to upgrade to the 3G network so that I can take advantage of the features. The fact that Motorola had to make a downgraded version to accomodate T-Mobile is pretty sad when all the other carriers have upgraded to 3G. I have heard a 3G network is coming to T-Mobile this winter. Hopefully the 3G Razr will come too.

Will never buy another "new" Motorola product again. Wifes Razr was an early model purchased a little over a year ago. No software upgrades from Sprint, Frequent resets required, and battery life of one day or less (with very mild usage and while remaining in good coverage areas) And most of this continues today.
Bottom line buying new Motorola products is a very high risk adventure that is best left to those willing to throw money away to be the first with a new toy.

I'd just like to know how many of the features Verizon has crippled on this phone. They all but gutted the bluetooth and java on my Nokia 6256i to force people into buying their expensive apps through "Get It Now". And what's worse, they don't even offer a replacement messenger functionality on a phone that had it by default at the factory! Be sure to check with your carrier before you assume that all the advertised features will be present when you upgrade.

We'd pay plenty for cell PHONES which have GOOD reception in our rural area. Phones which actually ring when someone calls instead of going to voicemail which is delivered 2 hrs to 2 days later! my razr would get stuck closed (constantly) causing inability to answer important calls.i lost money due to this design flaw. after 3 months the earpiece volume sounded like a tin can, the plastic cover for the screen fell off constantly causing dust to build up inside of the screen.speaker phone was awful. just from regular use. i could keep going but i think my point was made.

I've had it for about a year now and no problems with it...dropped, dunked in water, through the wash, I even stepped on it once...the only thing that happened is the faceplate cracked a little, oh no...like thats a big problem.

I have a SLVR. I got that after being dissatisfied with the RAZR. I must admit that the SLVR is a much better phone. It simply looks like the brick-style version of a RAZR, but I have no problem with dust getting under the screen or anything. All of these people complaining about RAZRs, why are you reading an article about the new RAZR2 to begin with? I have had my RAZR for two years now and have not had any problems with it. Yeah, lint gets into crevices... but that happened with my last phone (a Samsung)... if you don't like lint in the crevices, don't put it in your pocket, buy a belt clip... anything in your pocket over time will collect lint, my wallet does. As for reception, I don't have problems... someone already said it earlier, but dropped calls are usually not because of the phone... it's usually the carrier. Next, for the people that say it doesn't work after going in water... are you idiots? It's an electronic device that is not water-proof or water-resistant, nor do they market the RAZR that it is safe from water. Any electronic device that is submerged in water (and is not water-proof or water-resistant) has a high chance that it will not work again... if it does, you're lucky. Finally, yes, if you throw your phone on the ground, drop it in a food processor, or whatever stupid thing you think a cell phone should go through... then a thin phone is not for you. I would recommend the massive Nextel (now Sprint) phones with rubber and are about the size of a VCR player (maybe not that big) that a lot of construction workers have... those phones are more suitable for people who throw their phones around and treat them like they're indestructable. Enough said.

I bought the RAZR about a year ago and HATE it. The volume is too low even when it's at maximum. The battery life is barely 1 day with little usage. Also, I don't know if anyone else has had this problem but the menus are SOOO slow. The only good thing about this phone is that it's nice and slim.

Andrew in Indianapolis has it right! These phones, whether they are Motorola, Samsung, LG, or Nokia or whatever brand you have, MUST BE TAKEN CARE OF PROPERLY!!!! Complain ONLY if you have taken care of your phone (i.e. getting a case for it and NEVER LETTING YOUR PHONE CLATTER IN YOUR PURSE WITH ALL YOUR MAKEUP,KEYCHAINS, ETC.) and it still doesn't work. I had an LG phone that I took care of properly; it got struck by lightning by a storm we had here in the Midwest, but I believe BECAUSE I had the phone ALWAYS in the phone holster/case and was careful with it, I was able to get it somewhat repaired and it lasted a YEAR after it broke.

On the contrary, water will not hurt most electronic devices with a properly coated PCB. I don't recommend dunking anything in water to see if it survives. Let's face it though, it's a phone. Anyone who complains that a Cell phone or PDA or any electronic device won't work after being wet needs to take themselves OUT OF THE GENE POOL.
These are delicate devices that yes under some circumstances can survive some abuse.
But dunking one of them, and complaining is beyone moronic.

That being said my Razr has survived many's an accidental drop, some moderate moisture, and being left in my car by my wife when the outside tempterature went over 100 degrees so the inside of the car had to be well over 115.

And you know what?
It still works better than my buddy's treo, or my other buddie's samsung.

Just to the people complaining about dropped calls, or other phone features like bluetooth. If your phone drops a call, is it the phone? Or the carrier? You could have 2 identical phones, from seperate companies, in the same spot, one is going to have better signal/reception than the other. It has nothing to do with the phone, specifically. Bluetooth, if it doesn't work with your cars bluetooth, but does with a headset, is it the phone? or the car? People need to wake up, and realize they're in 2007, not 1995. Technology has improved. Phones can actually take pictures, and they can store mp3s (that's songs, music), and do much more. They do not just make calls anymore. If you want that, build a time machine, go back to the 90's, and get a startac. I had a razor for a couple years, and it worked fine. Phones are not meant to play baseball with, they are not meant to be dropped, washed, swim, or thrown. They will break. The bluetooth worked, the camera worked. I am glad to see that the camera's quality has improved, up to 2.0 megapixel now. And also that has the memory slot!

I love my Verizon V3c RAZR. The only reason that I am interested in the RAZR2 other than the appearance is the built-in media player (which mine doesn't have). As far as battery life, I get two to three days depending on usage (if you turn off the Bluetooth feature on the phone the battery will last longer and you won't look like a cyborg with the earpiece on your ear). The only problem I had was when I left it in my pocket at the airport and I had to get "searched" by TSA. If it weren't for the better media capabilities, I would still use my V3c!

Ken, I'm not sure how well Mototola sync software works, but Samsung's PC Studio is great for syncing your Outlook contacts. It does media, too, though all that will pale in anything short of Apple-centric option. So check out a Samsung; my Trace stays current with my PC via bluetooth quite nicely

My wife and I have had our RAZRs for nearly a year and a half and we've had absolutely no problems with them. My original phone did break when it got dropped from a height of about 10 feet, but isn't that why they offer insurance? Personally, I love the fact that the phone is wide enough to fit comfortably in my large hands and that the camera probably has the best resolution and quality of other phones of comparable price. When my contract is up and I can upgrade my phone, I'll definitely switch to the new RAZR, no questions asked.

I have had a Razr for two years now and don't have any of the problems others are listing, and I would have to agree with the poster who said they are not supposed to be waterproff don't be a idiot if you take care of your phone it will last a long time, also many people don't know that the cell phone carriers set phones to half rate to double their bandwidth so they can get twice as many customers on a tower, in effect they are giveing you half of what yo pay for, thats why so many calls are dropped, I have my razr programed for full bandwith and rarely if ever drop a call.

I have had my RAZR V3c for well over a year and a half. I love it. Only issues I have had was I lost the vibrate when I kept it in my pocket while having a MRI. (whoops) Everything still worked but the vibrate! I keep a after market plastic cover on it and it stays looking nice. Sure the screens get dirty, but they clean up. And for those of you who bash the RAZR? Sounds like you need a 1980's brick phone to keep you happy. And I find that Alltel doesn't turn off alot of the features on the RAZR so I have never had a slowness issue navigating between menus or anything like my friend who had Verizon and a RAZR does. And if a phone can last through my 16 year old daughter for over a year...(shed dropped it ina puddle...had it smashed by car..the outside screen was cracked and didnt work and the case was totally scratched..but it worked!)I will buy it again. She finally 'lost' it. I still have mine and plan to get the RAZR2 when Alltel has it and my plan is up for renewal.

I had the RAZR V3 for about 2 years, then switched carriers and got the V3c (which is bull-hockey in itself that I cannot use my same phone...) and although it claimed to be better, it was HORRIBLE. It was slow, even LESS customizable than the old one, and the "improvements" on its features were merely a new icon and plastic pieces instead of metal on the outside! RAZR has let me down. I will not buy one until they give us Symbian or Linux or something we can WORK WITH that is not slower than molasses in January. Basically: smartphone, or scrap it.

I bought the RAZR almost two years ago and it has been nothing but trouble. Looks good and that's all. I would rather have a Kyocera than a Motorola phone!!!!

No matter how good this new RAZR is, it won't change your reception if you live in a rural area with low signal, or if you go up and down mountains all day. I'm not saying the carriers are saints, but a lot of the time plans to improve coverage are thwarted by communities not wanting cell towers in their "backyards." People need to get a grip and realize a "mobile" phone is NOT a "hard-wired landline" phone, and not expect it to work the same way. Oh, and no matter what phone you have, if you drop it in water and it still works, count your blessings and buy insurance for the next time....

I think it's funny that all you people come on here to gripe and complain and yada yada.. You can't rate a new phone based on it's predecessor(sp).. None of you have the new RAZR^2 so your opinion means nothing.. I have had Motorola phones, Nokia phones, Sony Ericsson phones and they all worked fine because I took care of them.. I've had my Razr V3 for two years, and LOVE it! I was debating between the Rizr or the Samsung Blast, but am going to hold our for Razr2. I've dropped my phone in water and it took a couple of weeks to dry out, but works fine now. The charger just recently broke on me, but with the way I am with it, I'm surprised it lasted that long. The only problem I've had with my Razr is the lint under the screen thing, but this is a known issue for Moto. I'm sure they'll have it fixed with the new one. Oh, by the way, I have T-Mobile and my handset includes the Vibe & Ring feature OR the Vibe Then Ring feature. You do have to be careful about going through Verizon, as they will dummy it down to make you pay more for their subscription services that come standard with other providers.

Hopefully, Motorola, when designing the RAZR2, took a(n internal) design cue or two from an iDEN phone of yesteryear: the i730. Dowdy as hell(especially the 130-pixel-square internal display), grabbed and held onto a signal when it felt like it(the iDEN network platform seems to have frustration built in as a design feature, only because the industry won't show it the love it does for CDMA, etc.), but about as tough as an old Chevy pickup. The i850 vastly improved on that concept in practically all aspects. I expect the OEM Web browser to be all but useless(as it was on my phones). Fortunately, there are solutions to such issues: Get Opera's Mini browser(.jad and .jar files), then get a Java app loader, from Motorola's own website, no less, to put it on the handset(via USB link). The whole process takes mere minutes, and you can actually web-surf in relative style as a result. Now, whether the Moto folks bothered to engineer this user-friendliness into their CDMA phones, such as the RAZR(past, present, and new), etc., remains to be seen...

Note on battery life and the RAZR: If I turn mine off and on again I often get up to another day on it after the incessant beeping starts (why isn't there an "I got it, now shut up" feature??). I also only charge it after this trick has determined that all the life is used up, rather than automatically charging every night. I've heard that cycling the battery this way is better, but haven't done any clinical tests...

I don't see the big deal about the Razr being such a bad phone. Of course it had its problems like any other phone but what it brought to the market was style. It showed you could still have functionality while being sexy at the same time. That is something Nokia, Samsung, LG and others are just catching onto.

I've had 5 RAZRs in 2 years, the first 3 did not work properly and the 4th died when I fell in the pool. The volume does need to be improved and the LED screen is useless in sunlight, let's hope the new one improves on these areas. Like so many others I don't need the bells and whistles, just a phone that works.

I have one of the first RAZRs to come off the assembly line. The screen is a bit faded after all this time, and the hinge is wonky, but even though it was my toddler's favorite toy for months, it still works like a charm. I've moved on to a Samsung (for the push-to-talk features) but when I'm not carrying a purse I'll slip the SIM card back in my old RAZR and off I go.

I have had my razr for over a year and actually i really havent had any problems besides the life of a battery when talking on it. I actually dropped my phone 15-20ft and it didnt even put a scratch on it!!! I am excited for the new phone and will probably get it when i get an upgrade...

I own a Motorola Razr V3, it drops voice call after about a minute and that happens on different locations that are distant from each other, so it couldn't be the networks. Also when using the Mobile Phone Tool software that came with it, it disconnects in the middle of a downloads. I'm leary of owning another one.

My Razor is 2 years old.The phone has worked fine except for the battery life. I charge it every night because it beeps due to low battery. Alltel reps tell me the reason the battery life is so short is due to the phone always searching for a tower, which is 5 miles away from home. So I have ordered a more heavy duty battery, and after I try that then I will decide if I try the new Razor or not.

To those of you having problems with the Motorola phones and volume, I discovered that the wires in the ear phone portion of these phones tend to get coated with a kind of coppery build up very fast, so every two months or so, you have to open your phone and use an eraser (like on the end of a pencil) and "erase" the build-up. It's a bit much, and you kinda have to be a techie to do it right, but the volume of the earpiece definitely becomes louder and clearer.

I have owned many different cell phones over the last 15 yrs. My current phone is a Motorola Razr V3 and is simple the best one yet. I have had no trouble with it over the last 2 yrs. It has been dropped several times and with the exception of a few scratches it still works perfectly.
When I am ready for a new phone, I will definitely look ay the new razor first.

I just received our 2 Razr V3 phones. I have no idea where they stand in the line of worth a damn, but I was curious about this lint under the screen deal. Too bad Verizon disables all the features. They want you to buy VCast Music, Video and RingTones, GetItNow, etc.
The music player doesn't work as described on their website and in the manual that comes with the phone.It WILL NOT Sync with WMP as described.
I have a $300 Razr maxx Ve that is rendered useless by Verizon.
What good is a phone with features that are disabled? It makes your choice of phone irrelevant.

well, i dont know about you guys, but my razor is great display and 2.0megapixel cam, mp3, but when people try to call me or send text message they never succeeds, text messages takes about 3 days to recieve and my nokia works alot better, get the text messages instantly, this razor would be awesome if it only could be used as phone too.

My Wife and I have had our RAZR phones for almost three years. They have performed faithfully. Have not experienced any of the one day battery problems a lot of you are commenting about. The volume needs to be higher, agreed. I would like to be able to read the screens in bright sunlight. Other than this we have enjoyed our phones from the time we got them.

This phone is horrible. It only lasted 45 days before the charging connector on the phone broke through normal use. The battery lasted only one day and it had to be charged frequently. Neither the phone carrier or Motorola themselves will replace the phone because they say that it is "physical damage" and the warranty doesn't cover that. Essentially, what they said is that they sent out a faulty product and I'm out money that I paid for it. The phone looks great but if they can't make a phone that can be charged on a regular basis without falling apart then I have to say that it's just not worth it. Do yourself a favor and find something else.

I have the new Motorola V9 and there are some issues. Battery life is terrible evem with many functions off or at least time function. Issue with the # 7 and # 9 key pads. Have to push them with your fingernail or they do not work correctly or the # or * comes up even though that button was not pushed.

I have this new phone and there are some issues. Battery life is terrible. Appears to be a design issue with the # 7 and # 9 buttons. They have to be pushed with the finger nail or you can get a (no) number indicated on the screen or the # or * pops on the screen even though that symbol was not pushed.
