I bought the iPhone early because I knew based on historical marketing and brand positioning Apple holds its retail prices on products UNTIL new products or upgrades become available. One has been able to be fairly sure in the past that you won't be a sucker by buying an Apple product early. After years of being a Apple brand loyal they lost me today.

I called Apple's iPhone center today and they said they were sorry but too bad. VERY POOR response to a major faux pas by Apple.

Want to save even more on an iPhone?

To those suckers who queued up for days for this gizmo, only for the price to drop by 200 bucks, I say ha-ha-ha to you.
Next time you think of queuing up, causing traffic snarl-ups, because you can't wait a few weeks for a new product serves you right.
On they bright side, at least my Apple stock went up, so keep it up and continue forking over your money just so that you can be the first with a new gizmo.

Want to save even more on an iPhone?

I bought by iPhone less than a month ago. If I had known the price will be cut and the model I bought won't be supported any longer, I could have saved money by waiting just a couple of weeks.

Want to save even more on an iPhone?

J. And now I hear that there will be another price decrease, wow.
I have known, or thought I did, that Apple wouldn't lower prices until a new model hit the stores. Now I am upset to have purchased this at this price. And Apple can lower their prices all they want to. The real issue of returns is that AT&T charges an arm and a leg for deposits. I have heard $500 to turn on a phone! Now you are stuck with a phone and no service provider. Cutting prices before the next version is very unusual in itself. I guess the question is why? If Apple thought they could sell it at $499 (4gig) and $599 (8gig) for a year or so like their usual product cycle, then by in cutting prices so soon they have admitted a mistake. Was there enough demand at that price point to generate the kind of sales they were looking for? Or, if after the initial enthusiam, they were beginning to see a serious decline? Cutting prices like this is probably not too unusual for a cell phone maker/provider (via discounts) but for Apple is downright strange. I'm a huge Apple fan but (also a very loyal Tmobile customer) but couldn't see myself forking over over $500+ for a 1st version product to go to ATT / Cingular. My Blackberry will work phone until Apple lowers the prices (which they have), releases Version 2 with new goodies, and someone is able reliable unlock the it so i can use on on the TMobile network (or if Apple releases an unlocked Phone). So Apple is 1 of 3, and the rest of us are waiting for the other 2.

But Apple came out with great new products today!

Want to save even more on an iPhone?

I guess I too am a sucker. I've held off on the iPhone because really 1st gen of anything has tons of problems and glitches, which is precisely what happened with the iPhone. I also expected that with a new generation there would be a price drop and better prices through the refurb store. Its not that big of a surprise that Apple dropped the price, though a little bit I suppose for how quickly but they offered a new product and they're offering a new version. Its their standard pattern so it shouldn't be such a surprise. Don't get me wrong, I love the product but $600.00 for a phone is too much. I thought somebody had to force apple to lower that price and I'm glad many people didn't buy the iphone for the same reason forcing apple to lower it, now if you did pay 600.00 for a phone you shouldn't be crying for 200.00 drop

Want to save even more on an iPhone?

These refurb units are perfectly good. I strongly suggest people take advantage of them. Sometimes its nothing but a simple return in an unopened box. I have been buying Dell refurb stuff for years and haven't had a single problem.

Sammy
Want to save even more on an iPhone?

Until today, I've never understood why people are willing to pay top dollar for a product they know is going to drop in price after around two to six months. After reading some of the comments posted here, I think i know: People who are sadly desperate for attention are willing to shell out their cash for a sub-par piece of junk. You Apple-kissing suckers deserve everything you get.
