The screen tilts forward slightly so you can see it better while typing. Hence the name.
AT&T’s new Tilt is fast. Really fast. I know that because I’m familiar with the phone in other forms. The Tilt is

AT&T Tilt: Built for speed

$999.99 is rather rediculous and slightly misleading, as is $399.99 with a two year contract; I bought one outright from my local AT&T store for $499.99 (plus tax) with no contract earlier today (i am an AT&T wireless customer, however.)

I bought this to replace a problematic 8525 and it is a superior PPC in every way. I was surprised the Tilt/8925/TyTN II/Kaiser was released and pleased with my luck; i am expecting a refund from AT&T on the returned 8525 (dead screen). All in all, the difference between the 8525 and Tilt was, monetarily, slightly over $100 and well worth it if you value your precious built-in memory (128/256 RAM/ROM on the Tilt vs 64/128 RAM/ROM on the 8525) for programs and applications.

AT&T Tilt: Built for speed

Would the Sprint Mogul be similar in performance?

AT&T Tilt: Built for speed

Sprint offers it for 199 and with faster 3 G network that ATT I have used it on Sprint's EVDO network and it is much faster ... and price is competative

AT&T Tilt: Built for speed

My local AT&T store looked up my account and said I didn't qualify yet for an upgrade (Bought a BlackJack last year and waiting for the WM6 upgrade that will never come from AT&T) so the price would be $599. What a joke, no way I'm shelling out $600 for a device that is twice as thick as my BlackJack and does only a couple of additional tasks. Had the upgrade path been say $100 I might have gone for it, but $600, not going to fly AT&T!!!

BTW the person at the store informed me that my BlackJack data program had been changed to no longer include tethering (something I had under my original plan) and that if I wanted tethering back it would be $59.99/mo instead of the unlimited $39.99 plan I currently have, oh and that's when unlimited isn't really unlimited now is it? Sounds like monkey business from AT&T once they took over Cingular.

AT&T Tilt: Built for speed

Heh. Its processor is faster (i.e., more efficient at the same 400mhz clock speed than the 8525's) and it has lots more onboard memory, letting WinMo 6 run faster with less hiccups.

Price: The consumer 2-year contract price is $399 minus $100 in rebates. Yes, the AT&T Premier site lies about the base price of the phones so they can show a huge company discount. Though a lot of companies mark up prices before applying discounts, Premier's markups are insane, and very obvious since you can compare to the consumer site. It's amazing they get away with this! Actually, it's no surprise. :-/

Freezing/iPhone: I've had my Tilt since it was released and it hasn't frozen on me once. I've also got it loaded down with lots of apps in main memory, too! My 8125 was the crash king, so this is a pleasant surprise. Smartphones do crash sometimes, and the iPhone is in that crowd (google iphone crash). Also, sometimes you get a bad one. Why not exchange yours buddy?

Push/Exchange: I love my exchange account, but you can get push email on your WM phone other ways! It supports Hotmail/Windows Live push natively. Or you can use an app like eMoze. Also, you can get FREE Exchange push email from places like mail2web.com.

Tethering: You can still tether your devices with the cheaper plans, but, they hide the application to do so in the phone (it's still there), and it's against the agreement. So, you know, they're free to charge you some whopping per-kb fee if they figure out you're doing it. This has been coming for a long time, actually. They're just ramping up enforcement :-/

AT&T Tilt: Built for speed

The Mogul and the Tilt use the same dual core processor (Application Processor & CDM or GSM chip on a single piece of silicon). The version in the Sprint Mogul is designed for CDMA 3G and the one in the Tilt is designed for the GSM 3G network. The T-Mobile Wing processor uses a low end 200mhz processor. Most of the time they worked okay, but occasionally it would take several presses to get a key to work, and then I would get a bunch of characters all at once. It took me forever to enter contacts that way. Really irritating.

The ergonomics on the thing were awful. The softkeys are right at the edge of the slide when the QWERTY is pulled out, and you have to use a fingernail, not your whole finger to push them. When the display is tilted up, it's even worse. Also, the display has no incremental ratcheting on the tilt, so if you use the stylus on the screen with it in anything but the full-flat position, the tension on the screen hinges isn't enough to keep the screen from folding back.

Overall, a good comceptual design, but poor implementation.

AT&T Tilt: Built for speed

I'm thinking of purchasing the blackberry curve vs. the AT&T tilt. Any suggestions?

AT&T Tilt: Built for speed

I don't know where you be getting your phone, but I got mine for $70 dollar with two year contract, with data plan

AT&T Tilt: Built for speed

I have a Tilt for sale if you live in SoCal for $300. No Contract.

AT&T Tilt: Built for speed

Big Moe,
Where did you get a Tilt for $70?
